My Story by Elizabeth Smart with Chris Stewart

My Story by Elizabeth Smart with Chris Stewart
Book Review by Jackie Paulson

Why did you pick this book? I am an avid reader whom is addicted to true life stories and especially transformational stories when a person can overcome pain.  Elizabeth Smart went from victim to victor.

What did you like about this book? On May 25, 2011, Judge Dale A. Kimball sentenced Mitchell to two life sentences in prison.  Mitchell is currently serving his life sentence at the United States Penitentiary, Tucson, in a high-security federal prison.
Quotes I love?  “If you will pray to do what God wants you to do, He will Change your life,” and “commit to the Heavenly Father, He will guide your way.”

What did you not like about this book? I believe Wanda Barzee should serve the same sentence as Mitchell as she was married to him at the time of the occurrence.  On November 17, 2009, Wanda Barzee, the wife of Elizabeth Smart's captor, was sentenced to 15 years for her role in the kidnapping. Her husband, the captor, was still considered as unfit to stand trial. However, on December 1, 2009, a psychiatric nurse who observed Brian David Mitchell stated she believed Mitchell had faked psychiatric symptoms and behaviors to avoid prosecution and remain at a state hospital. Barzee is currently serving her 15-year sentence at the Federal Medical Center, Carswell in Texas, which holds female inmates in need of special medical and mental health services; she is scheduled for release in 2016.

Favorite from the book?  She had a choice to be taken by this evil man and evil life or embraced the good in it.

Would you tell other people to read this book?   I would tell others who may need to recognize the symptoms of a master manipulator, narcissistic personality disorder to name a few of what Mitchell was.

On June 5, 2007 until March 12, 2003 Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped out of her bedroom in the middle of the night while her sister lays quietly and observed a stranger take Elizabeth at knife point.  This all took place in Salt Lake City Utah, she was 14 at the time.
Background: Elizabeth is from a family of six children and two adults.  Elizabeth is a quiet, not popular, intelligent school girl.  Two days before she was captured by Brian David Mitchell she prayed in her closet and asked God what He wanted her to do with her life.  This made her feel betrayed by God when kidnapped from her own bedroom.
Brian Mitchell was very intelligent in the fact that he saw Elizabeth and her mother shopping one day and observed them and followed them everywhere, it was his obsession.  To think that he planned to kidnap Elizabeth months before it happened sickens me to write a review of such horror she lived through.  As crazy as it sounds I feel that God has a plan for each of us and hers turnout out from tragedy to treasure as Elizabeth Smart turned her life into helping crimes against children, she is a public speaker and advocate for children to name a few.  She lived in fear of her captors and the reason why Wanda Barzee is also charged with this crime is because she chose to leave her own six children inn order to marry Brian Mitchell and become a part of his evil demise.
So how did Brian Mitchell kidnap Elizabeth when the Family had a security system?  A total stranger had overcome all of their safety measures and was able to get into the house, up the stairs, to kidnap Elizabeth. I don’t know about you but as I sit here writing this review please know that my focus is in security and security law. What might this message tell you?  Only you can make that decision and take the measures to secure your own family.  Anyhow, Brian cut a screen out of a window and was able to prey open the window to get inside the house.

The Father’s Love by Dave Moore

The Father’s Love by Dave Moore

Biography

My name is Dave Moore and I am the author of this award winning, amazing true story of my cross-country search for my missing son David and how I found my faith in God. You will be drawn into this story and experience every parent’s worst nightmare-a missing child. It will change the way you relate to your children, and will testify to the love, omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence of God. I wrote this story of "The Father's Love" to tell the world about the frantic search for my missing son and the complete transformation of my family because of the miracle working power of God and prayer.
Dave Moore is a chaplain serving through the Church of God in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Dave volunteers to pray with the sick and the lost in hospitals, nursing homes, prison, and jails. He is married to the love of his life, Dorinda, and has three sons, Shane, Adam, and David.

The Father’s Love by Dave Moore is a true story about a Father’ Love to find his son, when one day his son David left his home, leaving a note at the age of 19.  You must understand that Dave Moore was not raised in any sort of church or spiritual community.
On Day One while working at the warehouse Dave Moore did what he always did; worked hard, do his job, and get home.  Around dinner time Dorinda (his wife) went to check for David in his room only to find a note and the sentence that caught my emotions most was, “It is just the fact that I don’t know how to handle my current situation, every bird has to leave the nest sometime my time is now.”  With that said, my heart sank because readers of this book could definitely relate to this situation.  In a frantic state, Dave Moore went on a mission to find his son with little to go on but nevertheless left that moment to search.
The pages are filled with the heartfelt tears of any parent’s nightmare when a child leaves the home especially unexpected. During his search Dave Moore made a “deal” with God.  He said, “God, I want to always be part of the solution, never part of the problem again.  If you will save my son, I will serve you for the rest of my life.  I will never leave you; I will always be part of the solution ever part of the problem again.”  (Page 85).

Jeff Goins Books

In “You are a writer” book, Jeff Goins will inspire you to claim who you already are. He will teach you tips on perfecting your writing, expanding your platform, and getting your writing published.  If you want to fall in love with your own writing and publish something great this is a complete step by step guide and in the end you will be selling and learn to publish your book.
Jeff Goins tells us to speak in a way that is true for each individual who is writing because your life as a writer does matter and should be taken seriously.  If you love to write, Jeff Goins says to use you passion, your voice and write because if you write what you love, your passionate voice will shine and others will see it and feel it. The secret to successful writing as experts say is that if you are supposed to imagine a specific persona and write for them! Yes, that specific person! This is a trick marketers use to find their ideal customer. They choose someone, give them a name, and focus all communication efforts on reaching that specific person. Jeff's secret is to write for HIMSELF: (Jeff Goins)!  Jeff notes that if you stop muli-tasking and just focus on your writing and take all distractions away, then you will find your writing voice and be able to conquer all of your writing fears.
If you are going to fall out of love with the public approval, something interesting will happen: people will be attracted to your writing.  They will not be able to help it. Passion is contagious. If you treat people like humans and write from a place that is deep and true to you, you will find an audience that loves you and your writing! In the business of writing, you are going to have to be a marketer, an entrepreneur, and a talented salesperson. Learning this trick will help you start to change lives by the writing you put out into the universe.   Besides all of the above information Jeff Goins will give you all the success tools to write and publish your articles, eBooks and so much more.  I have learned more from Jeff Goins than many writers out there as authors, not that he’s the best but like they say, “When the student is ready the teacher will appear.”
